Crescent moon games & Galoobeth games
Hi everyone, I love Aralon and exploring its vast world.Let's share our experiences and interesting moments in the game.
This wiki is currently under construction but the forums shall soon open for some useful discussions.
Thank you Crescentmoon games and and Galoobeth games for such a fantastic RPG.This wiki is purely based on gaming experience.
Aralon: Sword and Shadow is an iPhone 3d RPG inspired by that classic vein that focuses on a compelling story, a unique hero, and an open 3D world ready for exploration. Journey through the Kingdom of Aralon and unravel its mysteries.
That which is done cannot be undone, but it can be avenged.
Three hundred years ago, the great Emperor Thalos ruled a empire that stretched from the Eastern Sea to the frozen wastelands of the north. It was said that he drew on his magic to extend his lifespan, so that he ruled beyond the years of any normal man. Finally, when he sensed mortality drawing near, he sought to become immortal and challenge the gods themselves. He journeyed far into the frozen north, seeking the legendary Well of Life.
Drawing on the Well’s magic, he cast a spell so mighty that the world shuddered on its foundations. The face of the Earth shattered, and the seas rose and fell. Waves as tall as mountains reshaped the landscape. The world was shattered and re-made, and Thalos vanished into the mists of Legend.
In the three centuries since that dark day, pockets of survivors have struggled to rebuild. From the ashes of that dark time arose the Kingdom of Aralon, forged of a pact between the elves, trolls, and humans.
Now a shadow has fallen over the land, and all the promise of a peaceful Aralon hangs on the delicate thread of Fate. A hero must answer the call to restore the hope of the future, and re-discover the legacy of the past.

There is now an updated Walkthrough and answers to FAQs available for Aralon. It appears below and has been contributed by me, L.A. Roecker, at email@example.com. Feel free to contact me with questions, edits or additions!
Aralon: Sword and Shadow Walkthrough
This is my walkthrough and FAQ answers for Aralon: Sword and Shadow HD for iPad. It includes most of the information I've learned through playing the game over and over. I haven't included information about being an outlaw since that might be confusing but I have included information about killing "friendly targets," which can be killed as a lawful person without changing your status to outlaw. I've also included my opinion about some things (e.g. which character class is best) but it is just that - my opinion - so feel free to disagree with me. I hope this is helpful and I would appreciate any comments or missing information. This is all my information - nothing has come from websites or from Crescent Moon Games. If you have questions, please feel free to e-mail me, L.A. Roecker, at firstname.lastname@example.org
I. Male vs. Female - I generally find that playing as a female is just slightly harder than playing male. I've timed how long it takes to kill enemies and it take 1-2 seconds longer for a female to kill an enemy than a male. This time difference can be much greater when the enemy is formidable (e.g. Lord Valemar, Sheba, Ancient Vampire, Ancient Lich, Merificus).
Class - my favorite classes to play are Mage and Paladin. They have the most versatile skills and you can use them effectively against all competitors. Being a Mage also requires you to think strategically - there are 55 parts to the skill tree to complete but you only have 49 levels to work with. Thus, you must think twice about which skills to complete because you can't complete them all. Mate is also the only class that has weapons to effectively deal with multiple attackers in my opinion (i.e. Fire Storm and Shockwave). Warrior - My least favorite class is the warrior. It is easiest to win using the warrior in my opinion but the skill tree is the least exciting. Sure, you can use heavy armor and it is the only class that can use axes but it is easy to kill things with an ax so the game is less challenging to me. One downside to being able to use these tools is the expense of them - axes and heavy armor are the most expensive in the game, whereas the Mage (wearing only light armor) is much cheaper but has much cooler survival tools. One interesting thing about the warrior is the ability to duel wield axes because that leads to some fairly spectacular combos. The skill tree only uses 42 levels, the lowest of all the classes except for the rogue and the skills are pretty much attacks that cause more damage than previous levels. Paladin - this is one of my favorite classes to play. You can wear heavy armor and work with all of the swords but the Paladin also has some cool magic skills like divine restoration, sacrifice of blood, divine favor and aura of wrath. The skill tree allows you to get into many different types of skills without a whole lot of prerequisites too. The skill tree has 44 steps to complete it. Killing Enemies - the Paladin has some of the best offensive skills for use against enemies too (i.e. judgment, retribution, blood sacrifice). I almost always finish the game more quickly when playing the paladin because it is easier to kill enemies. Rogue - this is the only character to use a pickpocket skill and poisons/toxins. There are 41 steps on its skill tree to complete but there is not a lot of variety in the skills; rather, there is more depth in the ones you do have. This is one of two classes that allows you to double wield weapons. In this case, it is swords and they can make for some great combo moves once you get the timing right. It is harder to block attacks, however, and I think it is the most vulnerable class, easiest to kill. Rogues cannot use heavy armor or shields but it doesn't have hardly any defensive protection (just parry). You really have to hope that you simply kill the enemy quickly or learn to parry effectively. Strong and Superb Toxins and Poisons - rogue is the only class to use toxins and poisons. To find strong and superb toxins and poisons, you must kill Kila in the Thieves Den, located in the Callaheim Sewers. This is the only place in the game, as far as I am aware, where you can get these particular weapons. The only other place to get poisons and toxins are from Jasper Redhand, also in the Thieves' Den, and from the merchants in tents next to the entrance to the mountain pass to the Western Kingdom. Stealth - this class, along with the Ranger, can move with stealth. The best hits I've found for Rogue are backstab hits. No matter what level you are, if you can attack an enemy with a backstab strike, it is a substantial blow.
Ranger - also a great class and the only one to use a bow and arrow. You can also use any sword in the primary hand too and you have a stealth skill. The Ranger skill tree has 46 steps to complete and there are a good mix of skills. There is a shadow wolf that can aid you in battle, which is very helpful, as well as ambush, skin of brambles (which works both offensively and defensively), lightening strikes and fire arrows. Arrows - one of the problems with the ranger is the need to have arrows with you all the time. I stash arrows around the kingdoms so I have them when I need them. The places where you can buy arrows are the Fine Bows and Staves Shop in the Western Kingdom, Cold Sands Hold, Brinn's Bows & Staves in West Callaheim, Harwen's Wares in Taryn Ridge and the tents in the Northern Kingdom that are next to the mountain pass leading to the Western Kingdom. Note that once you reach the Outlands, there really isn't anywhere to purchase many arrows so go well prepared.
Mage - my favorite class to play. The Mage can only wear light armor and cannot wear shoulder armor at all, but it has several defense skills. You can fight with a staff but it is also easy to kill enemies with different offensive skills. Also, by the time you reach the end of the skill tree, you are inflicting significant damage with each strike. If you are playing as a Mage, you must think carefully about which skills you choose to learn because there are 55 steps but you only have 49 levels to use. I choose only to train one Firestorm because you already have a Fire Blast and I only train one part of three of the Ice Shield 2 because you already have an Ice Shield and the Armor of Air to protect you.
Race - each race receives different types of loot throughout the Kingdom when you are playing. Elves seem to fair the best for most classes, getting slightly better gear than humans and trolls in chests. For example, if you get the Staff of Diamonds as a Mage, it will include a +4 intellect application for an elf but not for a human. Also, humans generally aren't as resilient or as agile from what I can tell so I almost always play as an elf. Trolls are toughest of all and seem harder to kill but are limited to being a warrior, paladin or rogue.
Challenges/Quests - here is a list of challenges that is as close to complete as I can make it. Please add to this list if I've left anything off!!!
Southern Kingdom - these are all challenges from people in Timbers Bend or Taryn Ridge.
Delivery - given by the Innkeeper at the Fox & Grapes in Timbers Bend.
Find Feskers - given by Aven in Timbers Bend.
Sunberry Gathering - given by Hans Longstride in Timbers Bend. Sunberry Bushes - there are more sunberry bushes than any other plant in the kingdoms. There is one bush immediately outside Timbers Bend on the left side of the path and another across from the Old Mill (in the opposite direction of the bridge). After going through the gate past the Old Mill, there is another bush to the right of the gnoll cave that is on the left side of the screen. From this bush, if you go straight across to the river and cross it, there is a hill with another bush (there is also a chest here too). Returning back across the river toward the bridge close to Taryn Ridge, there is another path going left (past the bust) that leads to a small house. Before turning into the path leading directly to the small house, there is another sunberry bush across from the path. The last bush is located behind the fence around the small house.
Tom Miller - given by Lyrah in Timbers Bend.
Missing Husband - given by Thressa at the Fox & Grapes in Timbers Bend.
Can I Offer My Assistance - given by Othel Black in an inn room at the Fox & Grapes. After accepting this quest, I kill Othel Black. He is a friendly target and will not affect your legal status and his life number is only 4 so he is relatively easy to kill. This upgrades me two levels easily and he has gold plus some armor.
Speak to Sufok - this is the first quest you receive and it comes from Sir Roderick.
Assistance - given by Raquel in Taryn Ridge. Diluted Energy Potion - note that you can purchase a book from Raquel with the diluted energy potion recipe in it. I don't think it is worth paying 100 gold for this recipe because you hardly get any return from making or drinking it. Also, the value of a Willow Leaf is 10 gold whereas a diluted energy potion is worth only 7 gold. You actually lose gold by making the potion. The better choice for energy is to make Fish Broth (discussed below).
Chief Kargath - given by Guard Rakthor just outside of Taryn Ridge, you must kill the gnoll chief, Kargath. When you kill Kargath, you will receive "Kargath's Sword," a claw blade that is a very effective weapon. There are also three chests in the Gnoll Cave, not including the loot you will receive from Kargath and his Gnolls.
Safe Journey to Taryn Ridge - given by Elyssa in a small house just outside of Taryn Ridge. The house is located on a path on the left of the main path from Timbers Bend to Taryn Ridge. Speak to Elyssa and she will ask you to get her safely and quickly (within 3 minutes) to Taryn Ridge. Cabinet Loot - there is no chest in Elyssa's house but there is a cabinet with loot in it and you can take it without fighting or becoming an outlaw. Because the "Safe Journey to Taryn Ridge" is timed and you only have three minutes to complete it, you should take the loot before accepting the quest.
Defense of Taryn Ridge - quest comes from Jarvis, a guard standing in the courtyard of Taryn Ridge. Note that you cannot complete this quest until at least 8:00 at night (you can tell what time it is according to the time on the map).
Bandit Trouble - get this challenge from Jarvis after you have completed Defense of Taryn Ridge. Note that if Jarvis dies in the fight with Kyle Stronghand's followers, you cannot receive this quest.
Find Darius - given from Sufok and is the one with a glitch in it that allows you to collect 100 gold from selling the grey stallion deed repeatedly (see below). Note that this is part of the main quest and must be completed.
A Stolen Jewel - receive this quest from Ian, who is inside the Red Lion Inn in Taryn Ridge. This challenge is linked with "An Ambush for Ian." You can complete this quest and collect the reward while still completing the other competing quest too.
An Ambush for Ian - given by Sirius Wilholme after you accept the "A Stolen Jewel" quest. As mentioned immediately above, you can complete the A Stolen Jewel quest for Ian and then immediately come back and ambush Ian for Sirius.
Seek Out Gorak in Palace - this quest is given by Darius in West Callaheim. Gorak is on the second floor of the palace in East Callaheim. This is part of the main quest and must be completed.
I Will Join You (3) - Darius will give you advice to join a guild and you can choose from the Knights of Aralon, the Order of Magic and the Guardians of Aralon. You can choose to join one, two, three or none of the guilds. I like playing all the side quests so I join all the guilds. In each case, you must go upstairs in the headquarters to find the leader of the guild to inquire about joining.
Knights of Aralon - you must speak with Garv Strongaxe to receive this guild's "I will join you" quest. If you accept the "Can I Offer My Assistance" quest from Othel Black in Timbers Bend, you must speak with Garv regardless so it is an easy choice to join this guild. The quests associated with this guild are mostly related to the smuggling operation mentioned by Othel Black and there are four quests that ask you to fight enemies. There is a fifth quest but it only asks you to seek out another (Captain Fargus in Cold Sands Keep) to receive further quests.
Order of Magic - in order to receive this guild's "I Will Join You" quest, you must speak with Zenero. The Order of Magic quests require you to battle some gross animals but these challenges allow you the opportunity to make a lot of easy gold. For example, the quest "A Deadly Web" requires you to get the spider silk of some giant spiders. There are many, many spiders you can kill easily and the silk is worth 100 gold per spider. I usually end up with 20-30 extra webs, making me an extra 2000-3000 gold. There are three quests to complete for the Order, including one that will give you a wolf mount (Sisters of the Night).
Guardians of Aralon - in order to receive this guild's "I Will Join You" quest, you must speak to Tristan Longshot. You will only receive two quests from the Guardians that require you to do something (there is a third quest but it only requires you to seek out someone for further quests). However, there is the opportunity to level up and obtain some good armor and weapons with the Guardian challenges.
The Plan - this is the main quest of the game and you must complete it to finish the game. There are several quests within this title.
Given by Gorak in the East Callaheim Palace. Speak with Queen Elenroh and learn about her death.
Corpses - Queen Elenroh's tomb is located in the Old Tunnels off of the Callaheim Sewers. When you enter the tunnels, there are two corpses where you can obtain extra loot just like a chest. They look like skulls and when you get close to them they will have a green arrow above them. The first is located down the path leading off to the left from the main path. The second is across from the Ancient Crypt where Queen Elenroh's tomb is located. Quick Level Up - there are two opportunities to level up quickly in the Old Tunnels. First, the spirit warriors and ancient spirit in the Ancient Crypt are levels 14-16 and will be close to your level when you enter here. By the time you fight all of the warriors and the spirit, you will probably earn one level. I always complete this part of the quest before I seek out the Ancient Vampire so I will have an extra level under my belt and a little more skill and attribute strength. The second way to level up quickly is to fight the Ancient Vampire. The Vampire is located at the end of the side path to the right of the main path (facing the crypt) in the sewers. The Vampire is a level 35 and is difficult to beat but is completely worth it to do so. You can get an excellent weapon and the defeat will cause you to level up at least one level, if not more. Note - you can choose the weapon you want to obtain from the Vampire. You will get a good picture of what the weapon does when you are fighting him and if you don't particularly like that weapon, let the Vampire kill you. The next time you fight, he will have a different weapon (in order to have this happen, you must choose to load a game from the menu, not continue last save). The Vampire also regenerates so you can keep reusing the Vampire to level up and get different weapons.
Given by Gorak in East Callaheim Palace. Talk to Darius to tell him what we have learned about Queen Elenroh's death.
Given by Darius in West Callaheim. Do some research in the East Callaheim library to determine how to break Merificus' hold over King Owyn. Potions Recipes - the library in East Callaheim is not only where you will find information about the Temple of Azra and the Scepter of Hammara but also the book Great Potions. This book contains recipes for quality energy, health and restoration potions.
Given by Darius in West Callaheim. Speak with Vierne in Karn located in the first outland, enter the Temple of Azra and obtain the Scepter of Hammara. Temple of Azra Spoiler Below - many people seem to have trouble with the Temple of Azra quest so I've included a detailed description of how to get through the Temple here. I hesitate to include it because it is so detailed and I strongly encourage everyone to try and get through the Temple on your own before resorting to this explanation. The Temple can be a lot of fun and you can get lots of gold and loot. Note that I haven't included fighting in all of the rooms in the Temple here. You have the choice to fight in all of the rooms or not - I think it is always worth fighting in these rooms because you will receive great loot, including some health and energy potions, weapons and gold but it is your choice to fight in them or not.
Enter the Temple with the key obtained from Drake Island. After fighting two skeletons, go up the stairs into a large chamber. This is the temple first floor main room. Go down the passage on the left. At the end of this passage, climb down into a pit with fire and follow to the back corner of the room (this corner will be on the same wall that the ladder you just came down on hangs on). Turn the handle in the corner to open the gate that blocks off the hallway you just passed coming down into the fire pit. Go back to that hallway and follow it until it ends with another switch to turn. This switch opens the gate blocking the path above the fire pit you were just in. Turn the switch and enter the hallway that was just unlocked using Helga's ring. Turn right at the end of the hall and follow the hallway to the end, where one room is located. Fight the skeletons in this room and collect the loot from the chest, which will include a Temple Key. Return to the first floor main room. From the first floor main room, go down the right side hallway (right side if you are facing the statues and away from the stairs) until you reach a closed gate. Use the Temple Key to open the gate. Go through the hallway with the pendulums and fire pits. At the end of this hallway, enter the Temple Second Floor. Go down the stairs into the Temple Second Floor Main Room. Go down the hallway to the left (it is the hallway that isn't blocked by a gate). Follow the hallway to a room with a fire pit, pendulum and walkway winding upward. I find that it is easier to go through this room using Helga's Ring or a Greenfin Stew. It gives you more leeway with your movements and you are less likely to fall into the fire pit. Once you reach the top, enter the hallway and follow it to the end. Enter the room, fight the skeletons and retrieve the Temple Key from the chest. Return to the second floor main room. Use the Temple Key on the gate blocking the hallway on the right side. Follow the hallway to its end and enter the room there. Fight the skeletons and retrieve the loot from the chest in the room (which will include a Temple Key). Return to the Temple Second Floor Main Room. Go up the stairs on the side opposite the ones you came down when you entered the second floor (it is the side with the full body statues). Enter the Temple Third Floor. Go down the hallway to a small open area, the Third Floor Main Room.
There is a hallway right in front of you in the main room. Go down this hallway until you reach the end.
Turn to the left and enter the first room on the left. There is an obelisk in the room with a green arrow flashing over it. Rotate the obelisk. Return to the third floor main room. From the main room (facing away from the door you entered to reach the third floor), turn left and go down the hallway with the purple wall hanging on it. Immediately to the left of the wall hanging, there is a hallway. Go down this hallway to the very end. This is very important - the room is hidden and you cannot see it until you are at the end of the hallway. Enter the room and rotate the obelisk.
Treasure - apart from the chest you will receive for fighting the Ancient Lich, there are three other chests on the third floor. I can only describe the location of two because I'm never exactly sure where the third is located and I must search for it every time I play. Here are the locations of the other two:
From the main room (facing away from the third floor entrance), go down the hallway immediately in front of you. At the end of the hallway, turn right. The chest will be on your left.
From the main room (facing away from the entrance), turn right and go down the hallway. Turn right at the first hallway you encounter. Walk down this hallway until you reach the end. Turn right and walk until you are approximately half way down. Turn down the hallway on your left and walk to the end of it. In a room on your right, there will be a chest. Return to the main room. From the main room (facing away from the third floor entrance), go down the hallway in front of you. At the end of the hallway, turn right and go to its end. Go through the gate on the left. There is a ledge there.
From the ledge (by the way, this is also a very good place to save your game), you must walk off the end of it. You can use Helga's Ring or a Greenfin Stew to make it a gentle descent. Even if you don't use the ring or stew, however, another ledge will appear beneath you. You must walk off the end of two more ledges until you reach the bottom. Stealth Attacks - like some other big fights you will encounter, you cannot use a stealth attack against the Ancient Lich. Rear Attacks - the Ancient Lich has an attack it uses that will kill you instantly once it touches you. The key to staying alive and defeating the Lich are to get around it and attack from the side or back.
Fight the Ancient Lich and retrieve the Scepter of Hammara. Return to Callaheim.
Given by Darius in West Callaheim. Use the Scepter of Hammara to show Merificus in his true form and break the spell over King Owyn.
Given by Darius in West Callaheim. Rescue Gorak from Valemar Keep Dungeons.
Given by Darius in West Callaheim. Travel to Shadowspire and defeat Merificus.
Glittering Sapphires - given by Finneus Goldring in East Callaheim Bank. Note that if you take this challenge, you must complete it before finishing the tasks assigned by the Knights of Aralon. If you do those tasks before you finish Glittering Sapphires and the Necklace of Amethyst quests, Finneus will become an enemy and you will not be able to complete his challenges.
Necklace of Amethyst - given by Finneus Goldring after you have completed the "Glittering Sapphires" quest. As with the Sapphires quest, you must finish this quest before completing the quests assigned by the Knights of Aralon or you will turn Finneus into an enemy and you will not be able to complete the quest. A Deal Gone Sour - given by Luther Argale on the south side of West Callaheim. I never complete this quest because it asks you to kill Lord Telmon, which is a bad idea at first. You must take this challenge, however, to receive the A Reversal of Fortune quest from Lord Telmon.
Into the Mansion Quest - as part of the Knights of Aralon guild quests, you will be asked to obtain a key into the mansion in West Callaheim. You must obtain it from Luther Argale, but you can either fulfill the "Into the Mansion" quest by completing the "A Deal Gone Sour" quest or simply by killing Luther. Killing Luther is the main part of the A Reversal of Fortune quest so I believe it is worth taking the Deal Gone Sour quest to abandon so you can get the gold and experience from Lord Telmon's Reversal of Fortune quest.
A Reversal of Fortune - given by Lord Telmon in his West Callaheim home. There will not be an exclamation point over his head when you enter his home but you will be able to receive the quest depending on the answers you give to Lord Telmon once you start talking to him. Also, you cannot get this quest unless you first accept the "A Deal Gone Sour" quest from Luther Argale. Once I complete the Fortune quest and collect the gold and points from Lord Telmon, I kill him. He is a friendly target so killing him will not affect your legal status, his level is fairly high so killing him will help you level up and he usually has a decent amount of gold and a good weapon or armor.
Guild Quests - you will receive a key to the guild chests for all of the guilds you join, but the the only guild with any loot in it is the Guardians of Aralon chest! Each guild will give you quests to complete in order to move up the ranks of the guild and rid the Kingdoms of problems. These challenges will help you level up steadily and acquire gold, weapons, armor, potions and other loot that can be invaluable as you go on to later challenges in the main quest. I've listed the guild quests here in ascending level order (i.e. lowest to highest levels of enemies) and the smoothest way to complete them.
Corruption in Callaheim - given by Eckar in the Knights of Aralon. Note that you cannot complete this quest without looking at the message you retrieve from Nevin.
Bear Hunting - given by Yiggdrin in the Guardians of Callaheim. Note that there is the opportunity to make some extra gold here. There are at least six bears with superb pelts once you kill them. These pelts are worth 160 gold each. I can usually make around 1000 extra gold by killing extra bears. Moreover, bear blood is worth 25 gold and I can usually make about 500 extra gold from the blood.
Missing Ingredients - given by Dersia in the Order of Magic. This quest requires you to obtain giant rat blood. The blood is worth 20 gold per rat killed and there are many more rats than the five you will need to complete this quest. I usually come away with 300-500 extra gold from the rats I kill.
A Meeting Disrupted - given by Eckar in the Knights of Aralon. You cannot get this quest until you have completed "Corruption in Callaheim."
Into the Mansion - given by Eckar in the Knights of Aralon. You cannot receive this quest until you have completed the "A Meeting Disrupted" challenge. This quest is related to the "A Deal Gone Sour" and "A Reversal of Fortune" challenges given by Luther Argale and Lord Telmon respectively. Luther has the key to the mansion that you must obtain before you can enter to complete the Mansion quest. He will give it to you if you complete the "A Deal Gone Sour," you can use the pickpocket skill if you are playing as a rogue or you can simply kill Luther. If you kill Luther, the Mansion key will be included as part of the loot on him.
A Deadly Web - given by Dersia in the Order of Magic. You cannot get this quest until you complete the "Missing Ingredients" challenge first. There is the opportunity to make considerable gold in this quest by killing extra spiders and collecting their silk and venom. I usually come away with 2000-3000 in extra gold from the spiders. Corpse - if you enter the Lair of the Spider Queen and defeat the queen, you can obtain loot from another corpse (like the ones in the Old Tunnels off of the Callaheim Sewers). Go to the other side of her web from your entrance and jump down to the cave. There is a corpse with loot inside. To get back out, go to the left side of the cave, walk on a strand of the web on the wall until it intersects with another strand that will take you right back to the place where you entered the Queen's web. Skybloom - there is a skybloom plant, which you need to make a quality energy or restoration potion, in the valley where the spiders are located. It is on the side of the swamp land entrance behind a fallen tree close to the steep hill. You can collect blooms both before and after you enter the Lair of the Spider Queen. You only need one bloom to make a quality potion so you can get as many as you want, simply by entering and exiting the Lair.
Dark Gnome Raiders - given by Yiggdrin in the Guardians of Aralon. You cannot obtain this quest until you have completed "Bear Hunting." There are two places to kill gnomes - a dark gnome cave located in the Northern Kingdom on a hill to the left of Cold Sands Keep. These locations are in addition to the gnomes that are standing around Windspray Lake. You will be able to complete most of the kills required for the quest in the dark gnome cave but there is some excellent loot and the ability to level up with the second gnome location - the Dark Gnome Burrows. Chests in the Dark Gnome Burrows - there are six chests in the Dark Gnome Burrows. Five of them are straightforward and easy to find because they are simply sitting out in rooms of the cave where you will fight different gnomes. The sixth chest is located in water in front of a waterfall. Once you reach the end of the Burrows, there will be a passageway leading to water and the waterfall. One Dark Gnome Assassin will be guarding it. The chest is located in the water on the left side prior to the actual waterfall. Opening Chests That Are Locked - all of the chests in the Burrows are locked. Unless you are playing the Rogue and can use the pickpocket skill, you will have to open the chest with an "Open Lock" skill. Each class has this skill and it is one that has already been completed when you start the game. Skybloom - there is a skybloom plant to the left of the Dark Gnome Burrows (if you are facing the Burrows). It is on the left side of a house at the top of a hill. Like the skybloom in the valley where the giant spiders are located, you can get blooms off of the plant each time you enter and exit the burrows.
Sisters of the Night - given by Dersia in the Order of Magic. You can complete this task before you receive it from Dersia if you so choose. I complete this quest when I am completing the "Missing Ingredients" and "Dark Gnome Raiders" quests because it is easier to complete all of the quests in the Northern Kingdom at once rather than having to go back out into the wilderness another time, just to complete this one quest. Wolf Mount - if you kill Anaya, one of the Sisters of the Night witches, you will receive a wolf mount. Skybloom - there is a skybloom close to the Sisters of the Night cave. Starting from the valley where the giant spiders are located, leave the valley by going up the short hill. At the top of this hill, the entrance to the mountain pass to the Western Kingdom and the tents next to it will be on the left. Continue past these and down another hill. There will be a coven witch on the left and then one on the right (there is also a ruined house). The skybloom is on the right side of the path prior to the ruined house but further from the path.
Kill Vanael the Slicer - given by Eckar in the Knights of Aralon. This is the only guild quest that takes place outside of the Northern Kingdom, in the first outland. Chest - there is a chest to the left of the Smugglers' Cove that is hidden. If you enter the sand dunes and rocks on the hill above the Cove (to the left of the cove if you are facing it), there is a chest guarded by four Smugglers.
Glittering Sapphires/A Necklace of Amethyst - if you complete the "Kill Vanael the Slicer" quest before the quests given by Finneus Goldring (Glittering Sapphires and A Necklace of Amethyst) you will never be able to accept or complete Finneus' quests. He will always be an enemy to you afterward.
The Border Wars - given by Narvi Kell in the Knights of Aralon. This quest doesn't ask you to do anything other than speak to Captain Fargus in Cold Sand Hold. Chests - to complete this quest you must speak with Captain Fargus in Cold Sands Keep. Inside the Keep, there are three chests with great loot and close to 6000 gold that you can simply take. As you enter the Keep, the first chest is behind the second set of bunks on the left in the main room. The other two chests are in a back room down a hallway to the left of the main room. Armor/Weapons - Cold Sands Keep is the last major town where you can buy supplies like potions, empty bottles, arrows, armor or weapons. Before heading out to do quests for the main or side quests, make sure you have stocked up sufficiently because there will be only two places in the Outlands to purchase supplies (from a small shop in Karn and from Grokk the Goblin at the northernmost point of the first outland) and each of these merchants only have a few items for sale.
Speak with Warrek - given by Arad Quickdraw in the Guardians of Aralon and worth 2,000 exp. Like the Border Wars quest above, this quest only asks you to seek out Warrek and speak with him. Warrek resides in Redrock Bay in the Western Kingdom. Transportation by Sea - if you want to travel quickly to Redrock Bay, you can travel by ship via the East Callaheim harbor. The cost is fifty gold but is a good way to avoid a lot of fighting getting to Redrock Bay otherwise.
The Orc War - given by Captain Fargus in Cold Sands Keep and worth 25,000 exp. I do not complete this quest until I have completed all of the guild quests, the quest given by Warrek in the Western Kingdom and the "Rescue Gorak" quest given by Darius in West Callaheim. The orcs you will be fighting in this quest are at least level 31 and as high as 37 (Uthu). When you first travel into the first outland, the enemies you will fight (e.g. Desert Fangs, Smugglers, Skeletons) are only level 19-24 (Ancient Lich in the Temple of Azra is the highest level). By completing the quest from Warrek (Minotaur King - levels 24-27), fighting the Rock Giants (levels 27-29) and the Corrupt Knights, Priestesses and Lord Valemar (levels 29-32) you will have progressed more steadily and the leveling up will be smoother. You will also have more attributes and loot to protect you.
Uthu's Fortress - given by Captain Fargus in Cold Sands Keep and worth 25,000 exp. You cannot receive this quest until you complete "The Orc War" challenge. I complete this challenge and the Orc War challenge together. This way, you only have to make one trip into the desert, saving time. Additionally, you don't have to worry about accidentally killing one of Captain Fargus' men and becoming an outlaw on this quest since you will be in the fortress alone. If you do become an outlaw, you cannot complete this quest and it will cost you in terms of leveling up.
Outland One (Sand Outland) Challenges - there is one quest given in the first outland and you can choose to complete it or not.
A Soothing Balm - there is only one quest given in the first (sand) Outland and it is "A Soothing Balm" given by Sunclaw. If you want the dragon to take you to Drake Island to retrieve the key to the Temple of Azra, you must complete this quest. There are several things you must do to complete this quest.
Sunclaw's Tooth - on the beach south of Karn, there is a dead Drake carcass. One of Sunclaw's teeth is broken in the carcass and you must take the tooth. You may learn about the tooth from Katami in Karn too.
Speak with Vierne - after you find the tooth, you must speak with Vierne in Karn. Note - at this first meeting, she will not give you the soothing balm recipe. She simply tells you to seek out Sunclaw.
Pick Yuma Plants - Yuma plans are necessary for the soothing balm as well as quality health and restoration potions. There are three yuma plants in the desert around Karn. The first is behind the shop and Vierne's hut a few yards into the desert. The second is next to two cacti a few yards behind Katami's hut in Karn. The third plant is several yards behind and in between the first two plants. Each time you enter a hut or speak with Sunclaw, you will be able to collect more yuma plants. The restoration and health potions only require one plant each and it is worth picking as many plants as possible since the potions work well.
Speak to Sunclaw - if you don't know about the tooth, he will not give you the soothing balm quest. The quest is worth 1,000 gold and 4,000 exp.
Speak to Vierne/Make Balm - once you have received the quest from Sunclaw, return to Vierne and she will give you the recipe for the soothing balm. You need a superb health potion, which you can either get in Cold Sands Hold or in Karn at the shop next to Vierne's hut, and three yuma plants. Mix these together and you will create the balm. Take them back to Sunclaw and she will take you to Drake Island.
Western Kingdom Challenge(s) - there are three quests in the western kingdom and one other challenge you may choose to pursue. One quest comes from Warrek in Redrock Bay (The Minotaur King), another from Koln also in Redrock Bay (A Brash Brother), and one from Gorak in Valemar Keep Dungeons (Icefang's Oath).
The Minotaur King - given by Warrek in his Western Kingdom house and worth 1,500 gold and 50,000 exp. Note that you cannot receive this quest without first completing the Speak with Warrek quest first. Fero Plants - there are two fero plants in the grass to the left and right of the path leading to the Minotaur Warrens. I have never been able to figure out what they are for because I have no crafting recipe that uses them but each pod I sell is worth 125 gold so they are worth collecting.
A Brash Brother - given by Koln in his house in Redrock Bay, it gives you the choice of three great weapons as a reward - Sword of Wounding, Staff of the Great Tree and Axe of Wounding - plus 50,000 exp. This particular quest is one of the most difficult in the game to complete and I do not complete it until after I have defeated the Ice Elemental Queen, the Fire Elemental Kings (yes, there are three kings), Sheba and retrieved Icefang's egg from the dragon Ashmore. The crested axe you are searching for is in the swamplands in the Northern Kingdom. The entrance to the swamplands is in the valley where the giant spiders are located. Swamp Beasts - the swamp beasts in the swamp lands are, next to Merificus, Sheba and Icefang, the most highly leveled and some of the most difficult enemies to defeat. They are leveled at 38-42 and they can spray a poison on you that is fairly detrimental to you, no matter how highly leveled you are. That's why you want to save this quest until later in the game when you have a fair chance of defeating the beasts.
Red Fern Plants - in order to make the strong health potion that Harl Windsin gave you, you must retrieve three red fern plants. These plants only grow in the swamplands and there are three plants in the swamp. Mid-Western Side Above Lake - The first is located on the western side of the swamp, in the middle between north and south. It is just above a lake (this lake also has hidden treasure in it). Far Northeast Side on Incline - the second plant is located on a slight incline at the north end of a lake on the far east side. Mid-Eastern Side - the last plant is located about halfway up the swamplands on the east side. There is no lake around it.
Hidden Treasure - there are two hidden chests in the swamplands and they have some of the best, if not the very best, loot in the game. They have things like superb emerald studded vests, superb hunters pants, superb steel armor, swords of wounding and ruby swords, whirling axes and shade axes among other things. It is definitely worth finding these chests because you won't find the loot anywhere else and it is the best out there, surpassing even the armor and weapons in Cold Sands Hold.
Mid-Western Lake - on the western side of the swamplands, there is a lake about halfway between the north and south ends. The chest here is behind some boulders. The red fern mentioned above is right above this lake. Northeast Lake - the chest here is in a lake just to the left (west) to the one mentioned above with the red fern above it. It also is behind some boulders in the lake.
Finding Phtok and Crested Axe Spoiler - many people seem unable to find the crested axe needed to complete this quest so below is a detailed description that will take you right to it. As I said above about the Temple of Azra, I hesitate to include this and I encourage you all to search for it on your own. If you just search systematically through the swamplands you will find it without any problem - that's what I did to find it. Nevertheless, if you are well and truly unable to find it, here is the way to it.
Enter the swamplands. There is a lake in front of you - go around the right side of this lake and travel to the spot where a large tree has fallen and is laying diagonally from the ground up into the trees (yes, there will also be another tree in front of you slightly to the right that has fallen but you don't need to travel that far). From there, turn left and travel around the bottom of a lake to a tree with an inverted "S" shape on the trunk. Continue going to the left around the tree and the bottom of another lake to a group of four trees and two rocks. Phtok and the crested axe is on the left side of the rocks under a tree.
Icefang's Oath - given by Gorak in the Valemar Keep Dungeons it is worth 40,000 exp. and 2,000 gold. You must travel to the second outland (with snow and hot springs) to speak with the dragon Icefang.
Giants' Den - there is no quest associated with the rock giants in the Western Kingdom that I am aware of, but it is worth fighting them and going through the Giants' Den. The giants have forged and crafted weapons and armor so you can pick up great gear from them. It is also easy to find the Den. From Redrock Bay, take the path toward Valemar Keep. Before the right turn onto the path leading up to the Keep, go straight into the grass. You will find giants around the corner to the left. Keep traveling on the grass to the left until you encounter the Giants' Den. Chests - there are three chests inside the Giants' Den. Two are on the first level and a third is on the second level. These chests contain great armor and weapons. For example, if you are playing Mage, there is a Staff of Ice and a Staff from the Great Tree. There is also Fine Elfweave Armor and strong health, energy and restoration potions. You can also leave the Den, re-enter it and get more loot from the chests because they get replenished with different loot each time you re-enter.
Rescue Gorak - although you receive this quest from Darius in West Callaheim, you must complete it in Valemar Keep, located in the Western Kingdom. There are Corrupt Priestesses you must fight that require some skill to defeat (levels 29-31) and lots of chests and loot to recover - nine different chests. Battling Priestesses - the priestesses in Valemar Keep are somewhat difficult to defend against because they have the ability to stun you with a freezing spell from far away. The best way to avoid this, I've found, is to start an attack before they start their spell. Even if you have to start your move some feet away, it is worth it, not to be stunned for 3-4 seconds at the start of the fight. For Ranger and Rogue, the best attack is a stealth blow because you can get in your first shot before the enemy even sees you. As a Mage, you can start a ranged attack far enough away to prevent being stunned too. Chests - there are nine chests from which you can take loot in Valemar and all of them, except the chest that holds only dungeon chamber keys, have good or great loot to take. Valemar Keep Courtyard - the first chest is in a tower in the Courtyard. From the entrance, take the ramp in front of you. At the top of the ramp, turn to the right and take the stairs up to a tower. Fight two Priestesses or Knights and take the loot from the chest in the back of the room. Valemar Keep Main Floor Bedchambers - there are two bedchambers in the first hall you reach after entering the Keep Main Floor. In each of these bedchambers, there are two chests. One is the chest near the end of the room on the right side, the other is the cabinet near the entrance of the room also on the right side. Main Floor Open Chamber - after exiting the bedchambers above, keep traveling further into the main floor. The first open space you enter will have a chest in it on the far left side of the room. Rooms Leading to Second Floor - after passing through the open space above continue traveling forward to another room that leads, to the left and right, to two smaller rooms. Each of these smaller rooms lead to the second floor of the keep and they both contain a chest. You must kill one corrupt knight to get the loot from the chests. Valemar Dungeons - the final chest is in the Valemar Dungeons. After entering the Dungeons, go through the pit and past the lake of lava. Go up the passageway that begins after the lake until you reach the end. The chest is in the back of the room. Gorak is held in Cell 1 so you will only need that key.
E. Second Outland - there is one quest in the second outland.
A Stolen Egg - there is one quest from Icefang in the second outland. You will receive this challenge once you complete the Icefang's Oath quest and it will require you to retrieve Icefang's egg that was stolen by another dragon, Ashmore. This quest is worth 50,000 exp.
Crafting - as far as I know, you can only craft potions, a soothing balm and two stews in this game. I've tried to forge and upgrade armor and weapons but have never been able to do so. Here are the recipes I've obtained throughout the game.
Diluted Health Potion - from Hans Longstride in Timbers Bend or can be bought from Raquel in Taryn Ridge.
Diluted Energy Potion - from a book bought from Raquel in Taryn Ridge. I don't think it is worth purchasing this book because a diluted energy potion hardly gives you any energy. Moreover, to make the potion, you actually decrease the value of the willow leaf. The leaf itself is worth 10 gold whereas the potion is only worth 7 gold.
Weak Health Potion - can be purchased from Raquel in Taryn Ridge.
Fisherman's Broth - recipe obtained from Harg Gutter in East Callaheim. This seems to be the equivalent of a weak energy potion. Locations for Fishing - there are several places where you can fish for small fish - the river next to the Old Mill close to Timbers Bend, the sea coast near Taryn Ridge, the river in West Callaheim and the sea in East Callaheim.
Quality Health Potion - from the Great Potions book in East Callaheim library. The yuma plants needed for the recipe are near the first outland settlement Karn.
Quality Energy Potion - from the Great Potions book in East Callaheim library. The sky blooms are located throughout the Northern Kingdom - one in the valley where the Giant Spiders are, one next to a house near the edge of Lake Windspray and a third between the valley where the spiders are and Lake Windspray. It is guarded by a Coven Witch.
Quality Restoration Potion - from the Great Potions book in East Callaheim library. You need both Yuma seeds and Skyblooms to make this potion and their locations are listed immediately above.
Strong Health Potion - from Harl Windsin in the middle tent that is located next to the mountain pass leading to the Western Kingdom. The only place to get red fern plants is in the swamp lands in the Northern Kingdom.
Soothing Balm - you will receive the recipe from Vierne in Karn. She will not give you this recipe until you have accepted the quest from Sunclaw to bring him a soothing balm.
Greenfin Stew - works like Helga's ring for a limited time and lets you levitate. Greenfin Location - there is only one place to catch Greenfin Nibblers as far as I am aware. There is a fishing spot on the dock next to the space where Harg Gutter stands in East Callaheim where you can catch Nibblers.
Armor/Weapons - there are several places to buy armor throughout the different kingdoms but each place only sells a certain quality of armor. I always try to save up and get superb gear as soon as possible because regardless of your class, good armor makes a difference in how long you live.
Superb Armor - can be bought in Cold Sands Hold. Note that if you are playing Mage, you must go to Mera, who stands to the right of the staves/bows tent, to buy light armor. Otherwise, armor and weapons are sold on the right side of the Hold as you enter from the Northern Kingdom.
Fine/Crafted Armor/Weapons - can be bought in Redrock Bay located in the Western Kingdom from the Fine Blades and Quality Armor and Shields Shops. Staves, bows and arrows are available at the Fine Staves and Bows Shop also in Redrock Bay.
Quality/Worn Armor/Weapons - can be bought at Bruno's Blades and Quality Armor and Shields in West Callaheim.
Head and Shoulder Armor - the only place to purchase head and shoulder gear in the entirety of the game is from Benn's Helms and Pauldrons in West Callaheim.
Capes - capes are hard to find throughout the Kingdom and I've tried to list as many places I know you can receive them below. Purchase - with each class, you can always purchase either a dragon or demon cape. These capes are excellent armor when you start the game because you will not have built up your attributes or skills and you won't have much armor. This is the easiest way to obtain a cape, obviously. Dark Gnome Raiders Quest - as a reward for completing the Dark Gnome Raiders quest for the Guardians of Aralon, one of the options is to receive a Cloak of Air. Unther's Cave - in the second outland (in the part with snow), there is a cave with a troll - Unther. When you kill him, you will receive a Cloak of Meditation which gives you +150 health and energy each. Ancient Vampire/Sisters of the Night - sometimes, but not always, you can get a Gryphon Cape from the Vampire in the Old Tunnels off of the Callaheim Sewers. As with the Vampire, I sometimes get a Gryphon Cape from one of the Sisters of the Night in the Northern Kingdom. Sheba's Lair - I almost always receive a fire cloak after defeating Sheba. However, this task is very late in the game so you won't have the cape for long. Nevertheless, it is one of the best clocks to have. Temple of Azra/Giants Den/Lair of the Ice Elemental Queen/Cavern of the Fire Elemental King/Swamplands - I have received a cape (mostly a fire cloak) from all of these places but not with any consistency. Sometimes I receive it, sometimes I don't - you just have to go there, defeat the enemies and hope you get what you want.
Runes - you will receive runes fairly often as part of rewards or in chests throughout the game. An important fact to note - only one rune can be attached to armor or weapon at a time. For example, if you replace a greater health rune (+200 health) with an etched health rune (+50 health), you will lose the much better rune for a tiny one. Be careful when you apply runes to armor and weapons to make sure they benefit you.
Hidden Treasure - there are lots of places with treasure chests that are slightly off the beaten path but have good loot in them. I mention them with the quests they may relate to below but I've also included them here for ease of reference.
Southern Kingdom -
Once you have gone through the gate from the old mill, look to the right. After you go down a hill to the river and cross it, there is a hill on the other side. There is a sunberry bush and a chest at the top of that hill.
After going through the gate at the old mill, travel along the path and fight two bandits and pass the gnoll cave. There is a little opening on the left between an obelisk and a large bust - there is a chest guarded by two bandits.
There is a chest in the sea next to Taryn Ridge. Dive in to the left of the fishing spot and head toward the two big boulders on the left side of the screen. The chest is located behind the boulder on the right.
There is a chest on the island in the middle of Lake Craythorn. I always get this treasure because it invariably includes a piece of superb armor or a superb weapon. This allows you to get a piece of great armor early on, if your character can use it, or at the least it can be sold for at least 500-800 gold.
There is a chest behind the waterfall in Kargath's Lair. You will reach it after crossing the first bridge and coming to the second one. Dive into the water to the left of the bridge and swim under the waterfall. The chest is just a few feet underneath it.
As pretty much every website now says, you can get easy money from talking to Sufok in Taryn Ridge. Accept the Find Darius quest and he will give you his Grey Stallion Deed. You can then abandon the quest, sell Sufok back the deed and collect 100 gold. Repeat this process as many times as you want!
Northern Kingdom -
House Next to Farmers' Arms - in West Callaheim, there is a house to the left of the Farmers' Arms Inn. Enter the house and there is a chest on the right. You might have to use a pickpocket or open lock skill to open it but it is otherwise free to you.
House Next to West Callaheim Gate to East Callaheim - immediately before you reach the gate in West Callaheim that leads to East Callaheim, there is a house. There are two ruffians inside you must defeat but also two chests. One on the first floor on the right side. The second is on the second floor on the right side of the bed.
Darius' House - when you speak to Darius, you can take the gold and loot from the chest in his house. You will not become an outlaw by doing so.
Lord Telmon's House - you may encounter Lord Telmon as part of the Knights of Aralon quests. Regardless of whether you join this guild, however, you can take the gold and loot from the chest in his house.
Cold Sands Hold - as mentioned above, there are three chests in Cold Sands Keep that contain approximately 6000 gold and other weapons and armor. Generally, I do not take this loot until I have finished most of the guild quests but the chests are available any time. The gold will help buy some great armor or a weapon so it might be wise to use this gold early in the game.
Thieves Den - there are two chests in the thieves den in the Callaheim Sewers. You must defeat some formidable enemies (i.e. Kila, Jasper Redhand, Lars Lightfoot) but they will give you access to some toxins and poisons if you are playing rogue and they will help you level up quickly for all of the classes.
Old Tunnels Corpses - there are two corpses in the old tunnels off of the Callaheim Sewers. The first is at the end of the left side tunnel off of the main path. The second is located across from the Ancient Crypt on the main tunnel. Ancient Vampire - also in the old tunnels, off to the right of the main path, there is an Ancient Vampire. His level is 35 so you must fight hard but you will receive at least one or two great weapons from the kill. There is also a chest at the back of the area where the vampire lives. You receive somewhere between 300-600 gold plus some great loot, possibly including a cape.
West Callaheim Mansion - when you first enter the mansion, there are two chests in each of the east and west bedrooms. There are chests on the main floor as well as on the second floor to the right of the bed. In addition to these four chests, there are another three chests on the main floor with good loot in them too.
Spider Lair Corpse - if you fight and defeat the giant spider queen, travel to the end of her web away from the direction you entered the cave. If you jump down (or use Helga's Ring or a Greenfin Stew) to the other side of the cave, you will find a corpse there. To get back to the other side, go to the left side of the opening, walk onto a strand in the far left corner until it intersects with two other strands. Take the strand that follows the wall back to the opening where you entered the web and exit.
Dark Gnome Burrows - the Burrows are next to Lake Windspray and it has six chests in it. Five are easy to spot since they are simply part of different rooms. However, the sixth chest is under water at the end of the burrows. You must go down a short path that leads to water and a waterfall. You must defeat one Dark Gnome Assassin, swim into the water and the chest is located on the left side of the water.
Western Kingdom -
Armor Shop - you can just enter the armor shop in Redrock Bay and take the gold from the chest by the counter. You don't have to fight anyone or buy anything in the shop. You can open the chests in the other shops and in the homes of Redrock Bay residents (i.e. Warrek, Koln, Arrick) but there is nothing in the chests so it isn't worth checking them.
Giants' Den - the Giants' Den is located in the middle of the western kingdom between Redrock Bay and Valemar Keep. This is a great place to pick up armor and weapons because there are three chests inside the Den, all with at least four or five different things like emerald studded boots, claw blade with 114 power, fine bear hide armor and such. Also, even if you take everything from the chests, they will be full with different things if you go back to it repeatedly.
Chest in Sea - there is a chest in the sea in front of Redrock Bay. You must swim out to the rocks that are showing out of the water from the shore and swim to the bottom on the side away from shore. The chest is to the right when you reach the bottom.
Valemar Keep Courtyard - as you enter Valemar Keep, go up the ramp directly in front of you. When you reach the top, turn right and go up the stairs to the tower. There is a chest in the back of the room.
Valemar Keep Bedchambers - after entering the Valemar Keep Main Floor, there is an anti-room and then a hallway. In the hallway, there are doors to two bedchambers. Each of the Bedchambers contain two rewards - one chest and loot in a cabinet.
First Outlands - there are five what I consider "hidden" chests in the first Outland. Three are in Karn, one is next to the Smuggler's Cove and the final one is off the path from the Orc Cave to Uthu's Fortress.
Karn - you may take the gold and loot from the chests in Katami's, Vierne's and Hawth's chests without fighting them or becoming an outlaw. You will obtain at least a few hundred gold from each of them.
Smuggler's Cove - when you are facing the Smuggler's Cove, you will see a hill on the left side of the cove. If you go up the hill and between the rocks you will find another chest guarded by three smugglers.
Orc Cave/Uthu's Fortress - once you have left the Orc cave and are heading toward Uthu's Fortress, look at the path. One part of it leads straight to Uthu's Fortress, while there is another pocket that juts off to the right. There is a chest and campfire here that is guarded by two orcs.
Second Outlands - there are many chests in the Second (snow and hot springs) Outland. Although they are less hidden than others, I mention them here because you don't have to encounter them at all.
Lair of the Ice Elemental Queen - at this point in the game, you will probably be at a pretty high level (e.g. 35-45) and you will be fighting the Ice Elementals. With most of the Elementals, you will receive a gem of some type so it is worth seeking out the queen. In her Lair, there are four chests with loot. The loot is excellent here - superb armor and potions, high power weapons and runes too.
Unther's Cave - this is also in the snow part of the second Outland. When you fight and kill Unther, you will receive the Cloak of Meditation, which is a great cape to have.
Cavern of the Fire Elemental King - while there is only one chest in the cavern, it is worth seeking it out. The loot, along with what you receive from the chests in the swamplands, is the best in the game. You cannot purchase this armor or weaponry and it is generally 2-8 levels higher than the best superb gear from Cold Sands Hold.
Shadowspire Mines - while there is only one chest in the mines, you can fight two dragons: Ashmore and Sheba. Each of the dragons have substantial loot when you beat them. Further, when you work your way through the mines, you will be fighting Grawls, all of which have superb armor and weapons. You will get great loot from every fight you engage in here. Sheba's Lair - you should not try to reach Sheba's Lair until after you have defeated Ashmore. The only way out of there is to use the Safety Ring or a Teleportation sheet you purchase for Karma points so unless you want to have to work your way, at the shortest, from Icefang's Lair all the way through the Mines again to retrieve Icefang's egg, wait until you have collected it and then head back to Sheba's Lair. Fire Cloak - I almost always receive a fire cloak once I defeat Sheba. However, she is the most difficult opponent in the game (more difficult even than Merificus and Icefang) and you won't reach her until you are almost at the end of the game. You won't get a whole lot of use out of the cloak as a result. Getting to Sheba's Lair - in order to reach Sheba's Lair, you must take a Greenfin Stew or wear Helga's ring and go over the side of the ledge facing the entrance to the Dark Chasm. After you have defeated Ashmore, return back through tunnels. Facing the entrance to the Dark Chasm, go to the furthest point left on the ledge. From here, go over the side and follow the indentation on the rock until you reach Sheba's Lair.
Quests You Must Complete to Finish the Game -
Speak with Sufok - this is the first quest you receive. It comes from Sir Roderick in your house in Timbers Bend and is worth 100 exp.
Find Darius - given by Sufok in Taryn Ridge. This is where you will receive the grey stallion deed.
Seek Out Gorak in the Palace - given by Darius in his West Callaheim home.
The Plan - all of the tasks below are part of the plan and the main quest in the game.
Speak with Queen Elenroh/Update Darius - given by Gorak on the second floor of the East Callaheim Palace. Once you have spoken with the queen, Gorak will instruct you to tell Darius.
Research - Darius will have you research what could break Merificus' spell and instruct you to search the East Callaheim Library. This is where you will find the Temple of Azra and the Scepter of Hammara.
Retrieve the Scepter of Hammara - Darius will tell you to seek out Vierne in Karn but you don't strictly have to do this part of the quest. You simply have to find a way into the Temple of Azra and that can be done in one of two ways. Speak with Vierne/Complete Sunclaw's Quest - you may seek out Vierne in Karn and complete Sunclaw's quest. Then Sunclaw will take you to Drake Island where she has hidden the key to the Temple and transport you to the door of the Temple. Get to Drake Island on Your Own - you can also swim out directly to Drake Island where Sunclaw placed the emerald that acts as the key to the Temple of Azra. once you retrieve the key, climb to the Temple entrance yourself and enter.
Enter Temple of Azra and Obtain Scepter of Hammara - for a detailed description through the Temple, see above. Chests - when you enter the Temple, you want to have as little "stuff" in your inventory as possible. At a minimum, you must encounter six chests in order to pass through all of the gates and levels. Not including any of the enemies you will face, however, there are a total of twelve chests in the Temple from which you can take loot.
Use the Scepter on Merificus - Merificus is located in the throne room where King Owyn rules in the East Callaheim Palace.
Rescue Gorak - Darius will give you this quest after you have used the Scepter on Merificus. Gorak is held prisoner in the Valemar Keep Dungeon, cell 1 in the Western Kingdom. It may seem like you don't actually have to speak with Gorak because at this point, all you have to do is go to Shadowspire and fight Merificus. However, Darius will not give you the Journey to Shadowspire quest until you have freed Gorak so in fact, you do have to complete this quest.
Journey to Shadowspire - there are several quests that can take place between rescuing Gorak and entering Shadowspire. However, you don't have to complete them because you can just go straight to Shadowspire from here. In order to reach it, you must reach the Shadowspire Mines at the northeast corner of the Second Outland. Using Helga's Ring or a Greenfin Stew, you can levitate over to the entrance for Shadowspire.
Things You Really Want/Need to Obtain - these are a few things that I have found indispensable when playing the game.
Safety Ring - don't ever get rid of the safety ring. It allows you to get out of sticky situations and is the fastest and easiest way back to Callaheim. As far as I know, this ring or one of the instant transport sheets you can buy are the only way you can get out of Sheba's Lair. It will appear in your inventory sometime when you are in the Southern Kingdom. It always comes to me before I leave Timbers Bend.
Helga's Ring - you must kill Ug, a cave troll in a cave on the land next to Lake Craythorn in the Southern Kingdom, to obtain this ring. This ring is enormously helpful and while there is a quest to obtain it for Og, Ug's brother, I never complete this quest. If you give the ring back to Og, you can never get the ring back, even if you kill him. Helga's ring will allow you to levitate over areas and get more quickly through buildings like the Temple of Azra, Kargath's Lair, Uthu's Fortress, Lairs of the Spider Queen and Ice Elemental Queen and the Cavern of the Fire Elemental King. As I mentioned above, this is one of only two ways to reach Sheba's Lair.
Mounts - according to Crescent Moon Games, there are eight different mounts in Aralon: three different types of horses (i.e. grey, black and white), wolf, dinorat, drake (which is not the same as a dragon), terror bird and dragons. They all all good mounts but my favorites are the dinorat and drake.
Horses - you will get a grey stallion deed from Sufok in Taryn Ridge that can be used pretty much anywhere in the Kingdoms. The downside to horses is that they are fairly slow and it is easy to get thrown off if you hit a rock or anything.
Dinorat - you can only purchase this mount with Karma points. It is a great mount, however. You almost never fall off of it, even if you run into something or fall down a hill or off of a ledge. It is also fast and can easily maneuver around enemies, especially Desert Fangs in the First Outland. You can purchase it at any time too.
Wolf - you can collect this mount from Anaya as part of the Sisters of the Night quest. The wolf is fast but excepting the terror bird, it is the easiest to fall from.
Drake - another great mount. You can obtain a drake egg when you are gong to Drake Island to obtain the key to get into the Temple of Azra. The drakes are similar to dragons, but they are not the dragon mount. Drakes don't fly but you don't have to complete a quest to get a ride on them either. A drake looks fierce, keeping enemies away, at least psychologically! They move easily and will keep you mounted through most things. Like the dinorat, it is fast but agile and can be ridden pretty much anywhere in the Kingdoms.
Terror Bird - you can get a terror bird egg in the Second Outland. If you come up from Icefang's Lair, turn to face left after reaching the top of the circle surrounding Icefang's Lair. Go down the path until you see an archway. Turn left and fight some terror birds until you reach the terror bird nest. The terror bird is jerky to ride and not very fast. It is creepy to look at but it doesn't compare to the other mounts.
Dragons - you have the opportunity to ride on a dragon twice. Sunclaw will take you to Drake Island and then to the Temple of Azra entrance if you complete her quest and bring her a soothing balm. You can also get a ride from Icefang from her lair to Shadowspire if you complete her task to bring back her egg from another dragon, Ashmore. Killing Dragons - you can kill the dragons if you choose to do so. I never kill Sunclaw until after I've been through the Temple of Azra because I like having her transport me to Drake Island and to the entrance of the Temple. However, it is quite a feat to defeat her afterward and will help you level up quickly. As for Icefang, it is important to complete the Stolen Egg quest for her. Once that is done, you can attack and defeat her. Even afterward, when you leave her Lair, she will be waiting to give you a ride to Shadowspire!
The following is the way I play through the game when I complete all of the challenges, kill as many enemies as I can and collect as much gold and loot as possible. I complete the challenges and quests in the most even way possible, generally fighting the enemies and completing quests in ascending order to make leveling up the easiest. It usually takes me 20-25 "days" to complete the game and I end at level 50 with around 150,000-200,000 in gold. By that point, all of my armor is superb or better and I've got two or more great weapons. I also keep the drake and one other mount to travel through the Kingdoms. As I said above with the FAQs, feel free to contact me, L.A. Roecker, at email@example.com.
You will start out the game in your home when Sir Roderick knocks on the door. He gives you information about your father, then dies, leaving you a quest (Speak with Sufok), to complete. Take the gold from him and the materials in his bag. Go over to your chest and take the torch, fishing pole, gold and whatever else may be in there.
Go out the door and enter Lyrah's house. She will give you a quest (Tom Miller) and you may buy a few things from her. At this point, I usually kill Lyrah. She is a friendly target so she won't hurt your legal status and her level is low so she is fairly easy to defeat. By defeating her, you will probably level up one level, if not more. Regardless of whether you defeat Lyrah, you may raid the loot in her chest.
Exit her house and speak with Aven and Hans Longstride. Each of them will give you a quest - Find Feskers (50 exp.) and Sunberry Gathering (50 exp. and sunberries). You may then choose to engage in some target practice with the practice dummy.
After completing the target practice, you can go inside the Fox & Grapes. Inside, you can accept a quest from Thressa (A Missing Husband - 250 exp.), the Innkeeper Jacob Tannen (Delivery - 20 gold, 100 exp.) and a guest, Othel Black (Can I Offer My Assistance? - 250 gold, 500 exp.). Black is in the first inn room on the second floor. After I accept the quest, I kill Black, who is a friendly target. I also go next door to the second inn room and collect the loot from the chest in the room.
Next, leave Timbers Bend, go along the path outside of the village to the gnoll cave on the right and pick sunberries off of the bush immediately outside of the village. Feskers is outside of the cave and inside, there are two chests plus the solution to A Missing Husband. If you continue past the gnoll cave, you will come around to a campfire (in front of you) and a sunberry bush (on the left facing the Old Mill). Return to Timbers Bend and collect your reward to A Missing Husband, Sunberry Gathering and Find Feskers.
Picking Plants - when you pick plants throughout this game you will either get one or two plants. I have noticed that almost always, if you stand very close to the plant but not in it, you will receive two plants. This is true for sunberries, willow leaves, yuma seeds, fero pods and red ferns. The only exception is skyblooms - you must get as close as possible to these plants and hope you get two plants. There doesn't seem to be any consistency, however.
At this point, you may kill the friendly targets in Timbers Bend, which will help you level up - Hans Longstride, Aven, Feskers, Parran and Lyrah. Do not kill Thressa, Jacob Tannen or the City Guard or you will become an outlaw.
Follow the path out of Timbers Bend to the Old Mill. Enter the mill and complete the Tom Miller quest. Do not kill Miller or take the loot from his chest or you will become an outlaw.
Once you leave the mill, you may cross the bridge or go fishing in the river.
You will have received an old fishing pole from the chest in your house. At this point, however, you will not have any recipes to use so you cannot use it for yourself. However, you can sell the fish for gold in Taryn Ridge.
Go over the bridge and through the gate past the old mill. To the left, there is a gnoll lair. There are three chests in this cave and several gnolls that will help you level up.
After going through the gnoll lair, continue on the path a little further. You will see a bandit on the left and a sunberry bush behind him. Past the bush, there is an obelisk and a tall bust. Between the bust and obelisk, there is a side path that leads to a chest.
Once you come out from the side path, look to the river in the valley below your location. Go down to the river and cross to the other side. There is a hill and at the top of it, there is a sunberry bush and a chest.
Once you return to the path to Taryn Ridge, pass the bust and go down the next path on the left. There will be another sunberry bush on your left just a little way down this road and across from the jetty to the small house. Turn down the jetty and go behind the fence in front of the small house. There is one more sunberry bush here.
Enter the small house and speak with Elyssa, where you can take the quest Safe Journey to Taryn Ridge (500 exp.). Note that you only have three minutes to complete this quest so you will want to collect the loot from her house, located in the cabinet, before you accept this challenge.
Exit the house with Elyssa and return to the main path. Go left on the path and cross two bridges towards Taryn Ridge and continue uphill into the village. Speak to Elyssa and finish the Safe Journey to Taryn Ridge quest.
Speak to Jarvis in the Taryn Ridge courtyard and you can accept the Defense of Taryn Ridge (500 exp.) quest. This quest can only be completed at night after 8:00 p.m. (according to the time on the map); also, if Jarvis dies in this quest, you cannot receive the Bandit Trouble (150 gold, 500 exp.) quest.
Enter the Red Lion Inn and speak to Sufok, completing that quest. At this time, Sufok will give you the Find Darius (1,000 exp.) quest as well as the deed to his grey stallion.
You can also speak to Ian and accept the A Stolen Jewel (50 gold, 250 exp.) quest and find Sirus Wilholme in the last inn room on the second floor.
You may also accept Wilholme's quest An Ambush for Ian (100 gold, 250 exp.) too. Go downstairs and complete the stolen jewel quest and return to Wilholme's room to complete the ambush quest.
When you exit the inn, you may collect loot from the chest in the farthest house to your right. If you try to take loot from any other house, you will become an outlaw.
You can also complete the Delivery quest with Raquel and receive the Assistance (60 gold, 750 exp.) quest from her.
There is a chest in the sea to the left of the fishing spot and behind a boulder.
Guard Rakthor, posted at the wooden bridge closest to Taryn Ridge can also give you the Chief Kargath (350 gold, 1000 exp plus a piece of armor or weapon) quest.
Facing toward Taryn Ridge and away from Guard Rakthor, walk to the left and reach Craythorn Lake. The willow leaves you will need to collect for the Assistance quest are around the bottom and right side of the lake (there are four bushes) as well as on the island in the lake.
Go to Kyle Stronghand's Lair and kill him. There are two chests in Stronghand's lair plus the loot you will receive from Stronghand himself and his followers. Collect the willow leaves from around Craythorn Lake (four plants including one on the island in the lake).
Enter Ug's Lair and accept the Kill Og (250 gold, 1200 exp.) quest. I always get as many willow leaves here as possible. Every time you go into and come back out of one of the caves you can get new leaves so by the time I am done with quests around the lake, I have about 20-25 leaves.
Helga's Ring Quest - when you enter Og's lair to kill him, you will notice that he has a green exclamation point over his head. This is for the Helga's Ring quest. I never complete this quest because Helga's Ring is an invaluable tool throughout the game and if you complete this quest and return the ring to Og, you cannot get it back, even if you kill him.
Return to Ug's Lair and complete the Kill Og quest. Kill Ug and take Helga's Ring plus any other loot you may receive.
From Ug's Lair looking toward the lake, travel to the right to Kargath's Lair. Enter the Lair and kill Kargath. There are three chests in the Lair, one which is hidden behind a waterfall. To locate it, cross the first ridge after you have entered the Lair and come to the second bridge. There will be a waterfall on your left. Dive into the water and swim underneath the waterfall. The chest is at the back of the little cavity. After you have killed Kargath, exit the Lair and return to Guard Rakthor to complete the quest.
Using Helga's Ring - one of the best ways to use Helga's ring is to help you get out of different spaces. In Kargath's Lair, for example, you can jump from the bridge nearest to his location to the cave entrance without hurting yourself rather than having to go back through the entire cave. Choosing Rewards - sometimes you will be given the choice of weapons or armor as part of the reward for a quest, like Chief Kargath. If you don't like the choices you are given and are only accepting something to complete the task, I've listed below a few tips to consider. Armor - armor almost invariably gives you more gold than weapons, assuming that the weapons and armor are close to the same levels (e.g. balanced armor with quality weapons). Potions - if you have the chance to take potions, I almost always take them. Potions cost a lot of money to buy so any chance I have to obtain a decent potion, I take it. If the potion is being offered as part of a reward, it is more likely to be a better potion than ones you would receive ordinarily. Weapons - if you only have the option of accepting weapons, then here is the breakdown of which weapons are worth most to least: axes, swords, (primary, then secondary mostly), hammers, bows, staffs. This list isn't an absolute but is meant to be a general guide for reference.
At this point, I become an outlaw. There are several low level people in Taryn Ridge you can fight and take loot from that will help you get more gold and level up. You can also fight people like Raquel and Guard Rakthor, who are level 20 and 29 respectively who will help you level up quickly. The hardest to kill is the tradesman in Harwen's Wares and I usually stay away from that house because it is so difficult to kill both Harwen and the tradesman.
After you have finished in Taryn Ridge, you can ride your grey stallion to Callaheim. You can enter the sewers directly from outside the Callaheim gate - there is a structure to the right of the gate. This is an entrance to the sewers (there is another just like it on the North Kingdom side too). Go to Quentin and have yourself changed to Neutral. Then you can use your safety ring to teleport to West Callaheim.
Once I am in West Callaheim, I go to the house next to the Farmer's Arms Inn. There is a chest on the first floor to the right side. There is also a chest on the second floor but it doesn't have anything in it. Next, I go to each of the merchants (Fine Armor, Bruno's Blades, Brinn's Bows & Staves, True Brews, and Benn's Helms and Pauldrons). I always try to sell loot to the appropriate merchant.
If you have the gold, you can buy head and shoulder armor at Benn's.
Go to Darius' house in West Callaheim and complete the Find Darius quest. Take the loot from the chest on the first floor of his house. He will give you the See Out Gorak in the Palace (300 exp., this is a main quest task and must be completed). Darius will give you advice to join a guild or guilds.
Go to East Callaheim and enter the Knights of Aralon. Go to the second floor and complete the Can I Offer My Assistance quest. Take the I Will Join You (receive the guild key) quest from Garv Strongaxe. Speak with Eckar and accept the Corruption in Callaheim (200 gold, 1000 exp. and choice of axe, dagger, potion or vest) quest.
Leave the Knights of Aralon and go to the Pig & Hound. Complete the main tasks for the Corruption in Callaheim, including reading the note you take from Nevin. Return to the Knights of Aralon and complete the Corruption in Callaheim quest. Eckar will give you the A Meeting Disrupted quest.
Go to the Order of Magic. Take the I Will Join You (receive the guild key) quest from Zenero on the second floor of the headquarters. Go downstairs and accept the Missing Ingredients (200 gold, 3000 exp.) quest from Dersia. Exit the Order.
Go to the Palace and upstairs to the second floor. Speak with Gorak and complete the Seek Out Gorak in the Palace quest. Accept The Plan (this is a main quest challenge - you must accept it; 3000 exp.) and exit the Palace. Go to the Guardians of Aralon and speak with Tristan Longshot on the second floor. He will give you the I Will Join You quest for the Guardians. Go downstairs, speak to Yiggdrin and complete the I Will Join You quest. Yiggdrin will give you the Bear Hunting (300 gold, 2000 exp. and choice of staff, longbow, leggings or rapier) quest. Go over to the chest in the left hand corner and take whatever loot is in there. Leave the headquarters.
Cross the river and speak to Harg Gutter near the end of the dock. He will give you the recipes for Fisherman's Broth and Greenfin Stew. At this point, I usually kill Gutter. He is a friendly target and his level is pretty close to your own so there is no downside to killing him. You will also get a better fishing pole and some more gold. Afterward, you can fish for small fish and greenfin nibbler on the dock next to Gutter's house. At any time, you can come back and do this during the game to earn more gold or make more stew.
Go into the bank and put away stuff you don't need (e.g. Guild keys, fishing poles, sapphires and amethysts, runes). If you have the necessary 3 sapphires and 3 amethysts, accept Finneus Goldring's quests Sparkling Sapphires and A Necklace of Amethyst. Otherwise, leave the bank.
Go to the mansion in West Callaheim and complete the main tasks for the Meeting Disrupted quest. Leave the mansion grounds and go out the West Callaheim exit into the Northern Kingdom. To your left, there is a building that leads to the Callaheim Sewers. In front of you, there is a path going into the woods and to your right there is a horse merchant and grass. Fight the bears going toward the sewers (there will probably be at least one superb pelt here). Go up the path into the woods until you reach a statue of a face on the ground to your left. Walk down the grassy knoll in front of the statue. There is a craft campfire here where you can make fisherman's broth or greenfin stew. Using either a Greenfin stew or Helga's ring, float down to the area around the horse merchant. Fight through bears until you reach Cold Sands Hold. You can enter Cold Sands and take the loot from the Cold Sands Keep or just purchase armor here if you have the gold (the armor and weapons here are superb quality - with a few exceptions, these are the best in the game). If you do neither of these, return to the West Callaheim gate and enter the Callaheim sewers.
When you enter, go to the middle of the sewers and turn right to go toward the Thieves' Den. Enter the Den and fight Kila, Jasper Redhand, Lars Lightfoot and Narvi Kell. If you are playing Rogue, take all the poison and toxin from Kila and Jasper. There are two chests in the Den. Exit the Den once you have retrieved the loot.
Go to the other end of the Sewers where the Old Tunnels are located and enter. Go down the main path and turn left into the first side jetty. At the end of the jetty, there is a corpse with loot. Return to the main path and stay on it until you reach the Ancient Crypt. Across from the crypt, there is another corpse with loot.
Enter the Ancient Crypt and speak with Queen Elenroh's ghost. Leave the crypt and go down the first side path on your left (it is your right if you are facing toward the crypt and is the second side path from the entrance). Fight the Ancient Vampire. Exit the Old Tunnels using the Safety Ring. Exchange your loot for gold or weapons with West Callaheim businesses. Go to East Callaheim and complete the A Meeting Disrupted (Knights), Missing Ingredients (Order), The Plan (Gorak) and Bear Hunting (Guardians) quests.
In each of the guilds, you will pick up new quests from members. From the Knights (Eckar), accept the Into the Mansion (500 gold, 7500 exp.) quest. Dersia, in the Order of Magic, will give you the A Deadly Web (5000 exp.) quest while Yiggdrin, for the Guardians, will give you the Dark Gnome Raiders (400 gold, 3000 exp. and your choice of blood sword, cloak of air, sturdy chain gauntlets or quality health potion) quest. You can leave the guilds to complete these quests now.
If you have enough sapphires and amethysts at this time, you can accept Finneus Goldrings' challenges in the Bank. If not, you will probably receive enough gems to complete the quests after the guild quests.
See Darius in his West Callaheim home - he will give you the next portion of The Plan - doing research (1000 exp.) this is part of the main quest so you must complete it.
Return to East Callaheim and complete the research requested by Darius, learning about the Temple of Azra and the Scepter of Hammara. While you are in the library, you will find the book, Great Potions, which will give you spells for quality health, energy and restoration potions.
Return to West Callaheim and speak with Luther Argale so you can obtain the key to the mansion. You must accept the A Deal Gone Sour quest or use a pickpocket skill to obtain the key. Go to Lord Telmon's house and speak with him. You can also take the gold and loot in his chest. In order to receive the A Reversal of Fortune quest from him, you must still have the Sour request. Once you accept the Reversal quest, however, you can abandon the Sour quest. Return to Luther and kill him. The mansion key will be part of the loot you receive. Go back to Lord Telmon's house and complete the Reversal quest. At this point, I kill Lord Telmon. He is a friendly target and he will have a good weapon and loot on him. Enter the Mansion and complete the tasks for the Into the Mansion quest. There are seven chests here with loot and gold for you to retrieve. Using the safety ring, return to West Callaheim and sell the loot you don't want. If you have enough Sapphires and Amethysts at this point, accept Finneus' quests in the East Callaheim bank. Exit Callaheim into the Northern Kingdom via West Callaheim. Once you have left Callaheim, turn to your right and travel on the grass until you come upon the path outside of Cold Sands Hold. To the left of this path, you will see two dark gnomes. Fight these gnomes and follow them up the hill to a dark gnome cave. There are three chests in the cave as well as several gnomes that can help you level up and complete the Dark Gnome Raiders quest. Once you have finished in the cave, return to the West Callaheim entrance.
From the West Callaheim entrance, travel to the valley where the Lair of the Giant Spider Queen is located and fight giant spiders to collect silk for the Deadly Web quest. Before entering the Lair, pick some skyblooms from the plant on the rock tunnel side of the valley. Enter the Spider Queen's Lair and defeat her. Climb to the other side of her web and obtain the loot from the corpse in the cave. Return to the other side (for how to do this, see above) and leave the Lair. Pick more skyblooms and leave the valley, going up the small hill opposite the way you entered.
At the top of the hill leading out of the giant spider valley, you will see the Western Kingdom mountain pass and some tents around it. Enter the middle tent and obtain the strong health potion from Harl Windsin and then kill him. Windsin is a level 30 and is not easy to kill but it is worth defeating him because it will give you a quick level up. Once you have finished in the middle tent, go into the other tents and kill the other tradesmen. By the time you leave this little hill area, you will have leveled up at least twice, if not three times.
When you come down from the little hill where the tents are located, turn left and go down a hill toward a ruined house (on the right). There will be one coven witch on each side of the path. Once you defeat the witches, go into the grass in front of the ruined house. There is a skybloom plant there. Continue along the path in the direction you have been traveling toward Windspray Lake. Travel around the lake fighting gnomes until you pass the Dark Gnome Burrows. At the top of the hill to the left of a house, there is another skybloom. Take plants off of it and return to the Burrows and enter. Once you enter the Burrows, fight the Dark Gnomes and retrieve loot from six chests. Leave the Burrows and go to the skybloom plant again. Pick some blooms.
Go around the lake back toward the coven witches you fought earlier. Pick more skyblooms. Fight the coven witches until you come to the Cave of the Sisters of the Night. Note that you haven't received this quest yet, but you can complete the tasks for it before receiving the quest to avoid an extra trip into the Northern Kingdom just to complete this challenge. Fight the Sisters of the Night Witches - Anaya, Esmerelda and Feebi. You will receive the wolf mount from Anaya. Return to Callaheim using the safety ring.
Complete the Glittering Sapphires and Necklace of Amethyst quests. You must do this before completing the Into the Mansion quest or Finneus will always be an enemy to you and you won't be able to finish these challenges.
Go to the Knights of Aralon, Order of Magic and Guardians of Aralon and complete the Into the Mansion, A Deadly Web, Sisters of the Night and Dark Gnome Raiders quests respectively. In the Knights of Aralon, you will receive the Kill Vanael the Slicer quest from Eckar as well as The Border Wars (1000 exp.) from Narvi Kell. You will receive the Speak with Warrek (2000 exp.) quest from Arad Quickdraw in the Guardians headquarters. Leave Callaheim through the North Kingdom exit and head for Cold Sands Hold.
After you reach Cold Sands Hold, speak with Captain Fargus and complete the Border Wars quest. Accept the Orc Wars challenge from Captain Fargus. If you have not already done so, retrieve the gold and loot from the three chests in the Cold Sands Keep. Once you leave the Keep, speak with Ranah, the potionmaker. Collect as many empty vials from her as you will need to make quality potions. You can also purchase a superb health potion from her if you intend to accept Sunclaw's quest for a Soothing Balm. If you need any other supplies, this is the time to purchase them or if you want to sell property, you can do that too.
Leave the Hold and enter the first outland. You will enter into a valley. In front of you, at the other end of the valley, is Sunclaw's Lair for reference. Turn to your right and travel straight until you reach the beach. Fight smugglers until you reach Smuggler's Cove. As you stand in front of the Cove, look to the left and the hill next to the Cove. Between the rocks is a small opening leading to a small area with four smugglers and a chest. Once you have defeated the Smugglers return to the Cove and kill Vanael the Slicer. There are two chests in the Cove not including the loot from Vanael and the other smugglers.
Getting Into/Out of the Boat - it is somewhat difficult to get into and out of the boat leading to the island where Vanael stands. The best way to deal with this is to wear Helga's ring or use Greenfin Stew.
Leave the Cove and move north up the beach. When you encounter the drake carcass, take the broken tooth. Once you are near Karn, pull some Yuma seeds (for plant locations see crafting section above). Visit Katami and she will tell you about the drake carcass. Visit Vierne and she will tell you to seek out Sunclaw. Sell any goods you want at Hawth's Wares and travel back to Sunclaw's Lair. During this trip, pick yuma seeds.
Getting to Drake Island - you do not have to take the quest from Sunclaw to get to Drake Island. Once you reach Karn, simply swim out from the beach and you will find the island after swimming for a fairly lengthy time. I choose to take the quest because I get to learn the balm recipe and earn more points toward leveling up.
When you speak with Sunclaw, you will discuss her broken tooth. As a result, she will give you the quest I Will Bring You the Balm (1000 exp.) quest. Leave her Lair and return to Karn. During this trip, pick as many yuma seeds as you can.
See Vierne in Karn and she will give you the soothing balm recipe. Make the balm and any potions you might want. If you need more yuma seeds, go back into the desert to pick them. Once you have finished crafting your potions and balm, return to Sunclaw's lair. I usually ride a mount to make the trip quicker. Complete the I Will Bring You the Balm quest and ask Sunclaw to take you to Drake Island. Once on the island, take a drake egg from the nest and take the emerald in the chest. The emerald is the key to the Temple of Azra (going through the Temple is part of the main quest so you must retrieve the emerald) and the egg gives you a drake mount, which is a great ride. Once you have retrieved the mount and emerald key, return to the spot where Sunclaw dropped you off and ride her back to the entrance to the Temple of Azra.
Enter the Temple of Azra and work your way through it (for a detailed description of how to get through, see above - quests), ending by killing the Ancient Lich and taking the Scepter of Hammara. Return to Callaheim by using the safety ring. Go to the merchants and exchange your loot for things you want.
Go to Darius' West Callaheim home and complete the Temple of Azra quest. He will tell you to use the Scepter on Merificus (this is part of the main quest - you must complete it to finish the game; 10,000 exp.). Once you use the Scepter on Merificus, go to the Knights of Aralon and complete the Kill Vanael the Slicer quest.
Return to Darius' house and accept the Rescue Gorak (40,000 exp. - this is part of the main quest and must be completed) quest. Travel by sea or on foot to Redrock Bay in the Western Kingdom.
Complete the Speak with Warrek quest by speaking with him (duh!). He will give you the Minotaur King (1500 gold, 50,000 exp.) quest. Leave his house and speak with Koln who will give you the A Brash Brother (50,000 exp. and your choice of: axe of wounding, staff of the great tree or sword of wounding) quest.
From here, enter the Quality Armor and Shields shop and take the gold and loot from the chest to the right of the counter. After you have retrieved this loot, leave the store and swim out to the boulders sticking out of the sea behind the dock. Swim to the bottom of the sea floor behind the boulders and take the loot from the sunken treasure there. Return to shore.
Travel to the Minotaur Warrens and defeat the Minotaur King. While on the path to the Warrens, pick some fero pods to the left and right side of the path (the pods are not right next to the road - you must look in the grass for them). Go to the Giants' Den and collect loot (there are three chests in the Den and they replenish with different loot every time you leave the Den and re-enter). Return to Redrock Bay and complete the Minotaur King quest.
After trading your loot for whatever gear you want, ride a mount (I ride the drake) to the entrance of Valemar Keep. Enter the Keep, slay Lord Valemar, Rescue Gorak and ask him about how to get to Shadowspire, completing the main portion of this part of The Plan. Take the Icefang's Oath (25,000 exp.) quest from Gorak. Return to West Callaheim and speak with Darius completing the rescue Gorak portion of The Plan. Darius will give you the Journey to Shadowspire (50,000 exp. - this is part of the main quest and must be completed) quest.
Leave Callaheim and go to Cold Sands Hold. Enter the First Outland and go to the Orc cave and Uthu's Fortress. Kill as many orcs as possible, including Uthu. Note - you will not have the Uthu's Fortress quest yet, but you can still complete the tasks from the quest so you only have to make one trip into the desert. Return to Cold Sands Hold and complete The Orc War and Uhu's Fortress (3000 gold, 25,000 exp.) by talking with Captain Fargus. Prepare yourself to enter the Second Outland by stockpiling arrows, poisons/toxins, helpful potions, armor and weapons.
Ride a mount through the first outland (I ride either the drake or wolf) to the mountain pass. Exit the pass into the second outland.
Go to Icefang's Lair and complete the Icefang's Oath quest. Accept the A Stolen Egg (50,000 exp.) quest from her. Leave the lair and go back to the top of the valley. From there, travel toward the arch in front of you, fighting terror birds. Just before the first arch, turn left and travel straight until you reach the terror bird nest. Take an egg from the nest to obtain a terror bird mount.
Travel to the Ice Elemental Queen's Lair and defeat her. There are four chests in her lair not including all the gems you will receive from her and all of the Ice Elementals.
Leave the Lair and travel to Unther's cave. Fight Unther and obtain a cloak of meditation.
Leave the snow part of the second outland and work your way to the Cavern of the Fire Elemental King. There is only one chest in this cave but it is worth going out of your way for it. It, along with the chests in the swamplands, has the best loot in the game. Better armor and weapons even than those you can find in Cold Sands Hold.
Leave the cavern and work your way to the Shadowspire Mines. Enter the Mines and work your way to Ashmore, the dragon that stole Icefang's egg. Defeat Ashmore and take back Icefang's egg. Note - do not try to defeat Sheba before defeating Ashmore because the only way out of Sheba's Lair is to teleport somewhere. Thus, if you go to Sheba's Lair before you retrieve Icefang's egg, you will, at a minimum, have to travel from Icefang's Lair back to the Shadowspire Mines to obtain it.
Once you have defeated Ashmore, return back through the Dark Chasm to the ledge across from the entrance. Facing the entrance, go to the furthest point to the left and, using either Helga's ring or a Greenfin Stew, levitate over that point. Watch carefully as you float down until you reach Sheba's Lair and enter. Fight Sheba and defeat her. You will probably obtain a fire cloak. Once you are finished, teleport back to Callaheim.
Go to the swamplands and obtain the crested axe for the Brash Brother quest (see above for detailed description of how to find the axe). Also, gather the red fern plants and loot from the two chests in the swamplands; it is some of the best in the game (e.g. if you are playing warrior or paladin, it will have several pieces of superb steel armor, ruby swords and axes of wounding).
Teleport back to Callaheim and travel by mount or by sea to the Western Kingdom. Speak with Koln and complete the Brash Brother quest.
Return to the second outland by land or by teleporting there. Give Icefang her egg. Note - you do not have to complete this quest to enter Shadowspire - if you stand at the entrance of the Shadowspire Mines, using Helga's ring or a Greenfin stew you can levitate over to the entrance to Shadowspire. It is much easier, however, simply to take the ride from Icefang. If you want a challenge, you may choose to fight Icefang. She is a level 50, higher than Merificus (40) and Sheba (45) so it takes a lot of skill to defeat her. It can be done, however, if you want to undertake it. Moreover, assuming you complete the Stolen Egg quest, even if you defeat her, she will still be waiting to give you a ride to Shadowspire outside of her Lair.
Once you have reached the entrance of Shadowspire, enter and fight the Grawls and shadow spiders until you reach the chamber where Merificus is standing.
Defeating Merificus - it is somewhat difficult to kill Merificus because he can stun you unless you learn to effectively block this maneuver. Except for the Rogue, each class has a defense like Armor of Air (Mage) or a Shield of Faith (Paladin) that it can use to block Merificus' stun. You must start your protection before Merificus starts his stunning technique and keep it going or he will be able to come in and stun you. The other way to keep him from stunning you is to keep him stunned. One other way to quickly defeat Merificus is to save your game right as you enter his chamber. Let him kill you. Once you continue from the last save, run back across the bridge over which you just came. Merificus will follow you but the bridge will collapse and he will be killed.
Once Merificus is killed you will automatically be transported back to the Throne Room in the Palace in Callaheim. Talk to Darius and complete the quest (this should land you at level 50 if you aren't already there).
Darius will give you one final quest, A Parting Gift that will allow you to speak with your father's spirit from the grave behind your house in Timbers Bend.
Return to Timbers Bend and speak with your father. Use the safety ring to teleport back to Callaheim and speak with Darius.
